How to prepare your home for a storm

Just a few reminders in the event of a storm coming your way…

1) Please prepare a home safety kit in advance. The home safety kit should include flashlights, batteries, 3 gallons of water per person, 3 days of food supply, 7 days of medicine, can opener, cell phones and chargers and contact information for the family.

2) Secure any outdoor decorations, patio furniture, umbrellas and trash cans to prevent them from being blown around.

3) Unplug any exterior lighting or decoration from your outdoor plugs.

5) Check your storm, yard, and overflow drains to be sure they are free of leaves and debris.

6) If you have a sump pump, be sure to monitor it regularly during the storm, if it is safe to do so. Prior to the storm, double check your sump pump outlet to be sure everything is operating correctly.

7) If you lose power, please contact your utility company immediately. Please remember, with no power your sump pump and ejector pits located in your basement cannot operate. Therefore, please do not use your basement bathroom unless you have power.
